Holiday Greetings from University Communications!

As we head into the holiday vacation break, I wanted to point out a few things that will be “new” in 2010.

First, as all of you know by now, we have launched new branding for the university. The shield logo was updated along with a new tagline, “your world to explore.” We are continuously working on implementation of the brand and expect that to be ongoing (with limited budgets, we are taking the implementation in phases). However, if you happen to spot the old branding, please let us know!

Our Style Guide (a description of how/when/where to use the new branding) is complete and is accessible online. When we return from the break, we will distribute printed copies to some administrative offices and dean’s offices. The style guide is extensive in nature so our best advice is to work through our printing and publications office if you have a question. We are here to help!!

Unplug before you leave

Wednesday, December 16. 2009
With the Christmas rapidly approaching, here's wishing everyone a happy a safe holiday. In addition, MSU needs your help to reduce the energy consumption on campus over the holiday break. Even though most everyone will be away from campus of the break, there are some simple ways everyone can reduce the use of energy here on campus.

- Empty, defrost, and unplug refrigerators

- Turn off all lights

- Unplug all TVs, DVD players, computers, printers, etc.

Even though some of these items are "off" they are still using energy. With everyone's cooperation, the university will be able to reduce the amount of energy consumed while saving our natural resources.

Paducah native Paul Reed Smith’s interest in public radio and in honor of his education at St. Mary’s School System in Paducah, led him to donate a substantial gift to WKMS. His lifelong love of public radio and his strong belief in education caused him to pull those two loves together. WKMS is Murray State University National Pubic Radio station.

Smith, 55, died after a year-long battle with cancer. His wife, Darlene Feikema, contacted WKMS with the news that Smith had made a planned financial gift to the station.

Anyone who has followed Kentucky news at all over the past few weeks knows the General Assembly adjourned its 60-day session without passing a 2010-12 Commonwealth Budget.
