Residential College Head vacancy
A unique opportunity exists in the Residential College System for a faculty member to make a tremendous impact on the lives of our students. If you have taught at Murray State for at least eight years and if you want to make a positive impact upon approximately 1,200 students, faculty and staff with a variety of backgrounds, majors, and interests, then this position may appeal to you. We are now searching for a faculty member to become the College Head of White College with the appointment beginning August 1, 2010. This residential college has established traditions that reflect the interests of its members. The college also has the traditional college council, intramural athletics, honor society, debate society, newsletter, and academic team. White College students are active in their college and on campus, and the faculty and staff take active roles in the life of the college.
A College Head holds a joint appointment in Academic Affairs and Student Affairs and is released half time from teaching and other academic duties so that he or she can devote adequate time to leading a residential college. Primary responsibilities of a College Head include working on retention efforts; serving as an ombudsperson for the students within the college; encouraging involvement by students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members of the college; and acting as a resource person for the programming and activities of the college. While the College Head retains his or her full academic salary, the College Head receives a yearly stipend with additional monies applied to the base salary; a meal plan; tickets to athletic, theater, and other university activities; and other benefits. At each College, the College Head is provided with office space and a reserved parking space.
College Heads are eligible for teaching or other income opportunities during the summer months, but they will have some activities and meetings related to their position as a College Head that they are asked to attend.
