ECON and Me
The Murray State University Center for Economic Education and the Kentucky Council on Economic Education will conduct a free workshop, ECON and ME, for area grade 2-5 teachers March 9 at the Graves County Central Elementary School on Rt. 121N near Mayfield. The workshop, from 4-7 p.m., will provide a free curriculum, training and other resources, a certificate for three hours of professional development and a light dinner. The curriculum is aligned with the National and Kentucky Standards (Kentucky Core Content for Assessment and the Kentucky Program of Studies) as it related to Economics and Practical Living. ECON and ME, an award-winning video series, stars four children and their invisible friend, who helps solve real-life economic problems. The imaginary friend applies economics to the real world for grades 2-5. The five 15-minute videos, with animated reviews, provide lessons of scarcity, opportunity cost, consumption, production and interdependence. An introductory video explains how to use the video series and the accompanying teacher’s guide. The teacher’s guide includes video program summaries, teaching plans, discussion questions and activities, tests and student activity forms. Pre-registration is mandatory and must be done by March 8. Register online at www.econ.org or email at econed@murraystate.edu with name, school, grade and email. For more information, contact either Barry Brown or Janice Vaughn of the Murray State Center for Economic Education at the email site or phone (270) 556-2113.
