The summer 2013 issue of American Archaeology, the publication of the Archaeological Conservancy, features MSU faculty and students twice.  A major article on the Poverty Point site, Louisiana, highlights the research of Department of Geosciences faculty member Anthony Ortmann and includes photos of Ortmann and MSU students.

A smaller article on the Backusburg Mounds site, which is in the process of transferring to Conservancy ownership, credits our program with introducing the Conservancy to the landowner and also mentions that the only previous professional work on the site was conducted by Dr. Kenneth Carstens, an MSU professor emeritus.  The MSU archaeology program is currently conducting a field school to document the Backusburg site in more detail in order to help the Conservancy in management planning.
