Two professors in the Bauernfeind College of Business have been selected for editor positions at academic research journals, one regarding economics research and the other regarding ethics research. Dr. Martin Milkman, Professor of Economics, will become the editor of Journal of Economics and Economic Education Research (JEEER). Dr. Murphy Smith will become the editor of Journal of Legal, Ethical, and Regulatory Issues (JLERI). JEEER is sponsored by the Academy of Economics and Economic Education, an affiliate of the Allied Academies. JLERI is sponsored by the Academy of Legal, Ethical and Regulatory Issues, also an affiliate of the Allied Academies.
Dr. Martin Milkman is a Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics and Finance. He joined the MSU faculty in 1988 and has taught a number of economics courses. In addition, he has previously served as Director of the Bureau of Business and Economic Research and currently serves as Director of the MS in Economics Program. Dr. Milkman has done extensive research in economics, including economic education. His work has appeared in various academic journals, such as Journal of Economic Education, National Social Science Journal, Public Finance Review, and Journal of Business and Economic Perspectives. In 1998, he received the Board of Regents Award for Teaching Excellence.
Dr. Murphy Smith is the David and Ashley Dill Distinguished Professor of Accounting. He joined the MSU faculty in August 2011. His academic record includes numerous research articles, books and monographs, academic conference presentations and research grants. Ethics research is one of Smith’s specialties. His work has appeared in journals such as Advances in Accounting, Accounting Horizons, Journal of Business Ethics, and Research on Professional Responsibility and Ethics in Accounting. Smith is in the top one percent of authors by downloaded articles on the Social Sciences Research Network. In addition to being widely published in academic journals, Smith’s work has been cited in various news media, including Fortune, USA Today and The Wall Street Journal.
